Joxfdield Back History - Dark White Morning

While waiting for Joxfield's upcoming, new album "Stupet" let's take a stroll down memory lane for a short while.

After a 30 years break since their last recordings as Anderssson & Ek  in 1975 Janne Yan Andersson and Stefan Oax Ek had decided to find out wether or not they had some creativity within. They went to Bråna cottage in Dalsland, brought some instruments and a computer for the recordings. The one rule was it should be pure new music or nothing at all, no old shit, no nostalgia. The following week was filled with improvisations and instant composing. Sometimes there was an overdub when both guys at the same time added their instruments to the version that's just been recorded. Never more than one overdub.

The first track was titled "Hurricane" and was completed by it's first and only take. You can hear it here: https://soundcloud.com/oaxjoxfield/joxfield-projex-hurricane

The result of the first Bråna session became "Dark White Morning", the debute album by Joxfield ProjeX. 15 tracks over 95 minutes. The albums was printed as a 2 CDr set in an edition of about 20 copies which were all given away to friends. The label Tin Can Music was established.

Hearing it today you may experience it as a bit raw and unpolished, very amateaurish, which is all true. It was a first attempt to explore something. At the time we were happy with the result and decided to go on with our music. The first step went on to the next.

Joxfield & Tin Can Music Discography, et al.

There is a new Joxfield album in the pipeline which hopefully will be released before the end of the year. Meanwhile you can did deep into what Janne and Stefan have done since their return to music in 2005 and onward.

Sanity Check (feat. Geoff Leigh & Håkan Almkvist) (Early Edited Version)

Some beautiful music on a Saturday.

"Sanity Check" was originally an improvisation that Janne and I recorded in Kolpebo in the fall of 2007. Then we took the song home, structured it a bit, added something and sent it over to Geoff Leigh, who played the flute, and Håkan Almkvist, who added the bass, sitar, tambura and percussion. The so-called original version (which does not have the flute) ended up on "Numbers & Letters", this early edited version appeared 10 years later on "Abstract & Concrete - The Mystery Of Numbers & Letters Revealed".

If you want to hear a lot more music from this time, you can go here:

(And the label that wants to release a mega-box with 7-8 LPs from these recordings... well, just knock on the door!)

Today's Joxfield track, "Dragons Fly In The Night (Single Version)"

Today's Joxfield track, "Dragons Fly In The Night (Single Version)" from the 2010 "Numbers & Letters" 10th anniversary celebration edition "Abstract & Concrete - The Mystery Of Numbers & Letters Revealed" (2020), both on Tin Can Music.

When Geoff Leigh agreed to contribute to the original album he did it in a really creative way, like with this tune, a "naked" arrangement from us which he filled with words and a melody which he sung, as well as made a semi-big-band arrangment where he overdubed his sax in both ensemble play and a fantastic solo. Nikke Ström's heavy bass clarified the riff.

Joxfield - Coming To An End - Out now!

A selection of songs spanning over strict psychedelic music, soundscapes, drones, repetetive patterns and even a piece of dystropic blues. All you can expect and all you need from this weird little duo.

The making of it has been a process over some years. The release of it has been postponed again and again because there was always something that came inbetween; new music, new directions, new albums, new releases. But now, finally, it's here.
