Joxfield ProjeX - Archives EP 7 – Dark Castle
Joxfield
ProjeX - Archives EP 7 – Dark Castle
The 7th
installment in a series of 9 Joxfield ProjeX Archives EP.
Two instrumental tracks from Joxfield ProjeX' three
disc album “The Pond Intermezzo" (2006), released in an edition of about
20 which were mostly given away.
Recorded
early summer 2006.
Two
important tracks for the development of JP’s music; Dark Castle with its
twisted rhythms and fake trumpet opened up doors to a lot of people who a year
later wanted to contribute to our music on the Number & Letters album.
Heavy Oax Missed is wildly improvised over a semi-funk pattern; Janne’s
JackJohnsonesque Herbie Hancockian keyboard and Stefan’s
hit-it-where-ever-you-can wah-wah excesses.

The tracks are edited and improved from Joxfield
ProjeX' three disc album “The Pond Intermezzo" (2006), released in an

Recorded
early summer 2006.
The first
CD of the original album had some vocals based tracks. Four of them are
presented here.
“Dr
Balanova” follows the legend of the Bulgarian doctor who claimed she and her
team had discovered some hallucinogenic substances in the body of a mummy,
substances which where thought to have been brought to Europe and Northern
Africa from South America in the 14th or 15th century.
Here the mummy goes for revenge.
“A Stone
Fell From A Palm Tree” is a homage to Keith Richard’s silliness to climb trees
and fall down.

Joxfield ProjeX - Archives EP 3 - Live At The Kolpebo Festival October 2005
Sneaks out of the closet today:
Joxfield ProjeX - Archives EP 3 - Live At The Kolpebo Festival October 2005
The third EP in a series of nine planned for release autumn 2013.
Recorded late at night after long days of structured recording ofwhat should become the Nothing But Sofas CDR (check Archives EPs 2 - Fivekus). There was a need to clean the heads from structures.
A simple drum machine rhythm was programmed and then they played on; Yan with one-hand keyboard bass Ray Manzarek style and Oax wild on his guitar. 100% improvisation, no overdubs.
The Kolebo Festival was the world's smalest festival, just the duo playing and a weird otter swimming and swinging around in the lake at the backstage area from the front photo. Sun E Mangs is a 10 minutes track, split into three edited parts.

Joxfield ProjeX - Mah No 1
Something to save your friday from boredom:
"Mah No 1" by Joxfield ProjeX.
It was released in 2009 and was the second of the two long tracks on "Shimmering Mah No 1" album.
This album is so far our most downloaded effort, close to 36.000 downloads. Our hit record?
This 28 minutes track brings you from minimal electronic patterns into a simple joyful melody of Kraftwerk kind over to some psychedelic surroundings and then, after that, we leave you for discoveries of your own.
Yan: Keyboards, samples, drums programmings, director
Oax: Guitar, glissando, efx & drums samples
PO Netterblad: Cover painting (Thanks, Pelle!)

The Ghost of Dark White Morning - Out Demons Out ! ! !
In 2005, after a short break of 30 years, Yan and Oax reactivated their musical explorations, this time as Joxfield ProjeX.
The first weeklong recording session happened in Bråna, Dalsland, Sweden in the very beginning of May 2005. No preparation except lust to make music. A lot of improvisations and instant composing.
The very first track to record was "Hurricane", a simple two chord improvisation, to find the "feeling" for the week of recordings to follow, get used to equipment. Just a distorted guitar and some wild, nasty keyborad. No overdubs. Pure live in the studio.
The result of that weeklong session became Dark White Morning, a 2 CDR set printed in about 20 copies, mostly given away to friends.
"Brana Funk" is from the same weeklong session in 2005 that brought "Hurricane" and resulted in the 2 CDR disc Dark White Morning. I can't resist uploading it.
This track is wild, messy and mad and when recording it was so loud in the room where we were playing that we actually couldn't hear anything but the buzzing noise we made, the sound of the programmed drums when lost, we couldn't hear anything, but caught a feeling that was so huge that we didn't want to stop, just went on. The track is both terrible and charming in my opinion, not too tight I may say.
Programmed simple drums, guitar, keyboard. Another guitar and keyboard was immediately added after recording of the basic track.
I did send a copy of the album to Deavid Allen (of Gong, ya know) and after a long time he wrote back:
"dear stefan,
thank you for your cd dark white morning which I have finally listened too (sorry it took so long but I have many to listen to & very little time)
On Disc 1 i liked tr3 & 4 best and on Disk 2 i liked the guitar work on tr4 and the wild gliss on tr 8 ("Brana Funk")."

Mighty Great Review by Recent Music Heroes
Joxfield ProjeX - Insult on the Dance Floor (2012)
/Krautrock, Ambient, Trance rock, Progressive rock, Motorik, Avant-rock, Experimental rock, Alternative dance, Industrial rock, Psychedelia/
Comment: Swedish duo Joxfield ProjeX (Oax, and Yan) arrived after a series of excellent albums issued on Clinical Archives and seminal collaborations with progressive rock luminaries (Pat Mastelotto, Geoff Leigh, Kenji Siratori). This time their brand new one is distinctly related to their personal Tin Can Music. There is plenty of experimental music tendencies out there prompted in part by reconstruction of space rock/ambient rock and krautrock-based elements and in part by dance-appealed propulsions, however, all of that is effectively disseminated and thereafter channelized into a formidable industrial tinged psychedelic groove. More specifically, intense hard rock riffs are seamlessly mixed up with electronic effects and mesmeric rhythm sections below it. OnlyFloating is the exception due to its blissed-out ambient and concrete sounds blended contemplation. There can be drawn parallels upon the likes of fydhws, Neu!, aboombong, PAS, Faust, Asian Women On The Telephone, Spacemen 3, Vibracathedral Orchestra etc. In conclusion, the whole is on the ball by any means (I got psychedelic vertigo by listening to it twice in a row). Obviously one of the most underrated collectives all around the world.

Autumn Rain, Swans, Joxfield & Ornette
Just an ordinary Friday, a day off duty, an indoor day because the autumn rain in this Godforsaken city showers like it use to this time of the year. A good ol' Gothenburg Autumn Rainy Day.
Taking a slow, long breakfast, reading the morning paper, sipping the coffee, listening to music; the first CD of Swans' "The Seer", the 27+ minutes Joxfield ProjeX track "Mah No 1" from "Shimmering Mah No 1" (yes, download for free here: http://archive.org/details/ca310_jp), Ornette Coleman's evocative "The Shape of Jazz to Come" from 1959 - one of the first free jazz albums. And next to come... well, no idea yet.
